Strand:3 Heritage & Culture
Section 4: – An Ghaeilge i gCarraig Thuathail
There is great goodwill towards the Irish language locally but adults in the Carrigtwohill have very few chances to use Irish locally. We hope to create different ways to engage with Irish in informal enjoyable ways and to make Irish more a part of ordinary day-to-day life.
We aim to do this in ways that suit those of you who are interested. For example, ‘Irish For Complete Beginners’ courses as well as a ‘Reintroduction to Irish’ courses for those of you who haven’t used your Irish recently.
We also aim organise a range of inclusive enjoyable social occasions as Gaeilge – some for adults only but others family-based.
We can expand by responding to your suggestions for support and other activities. Some of you have already let us know your wishes. One is to reclaim the Irish language heritage of Carrigtwohill – understanding our placenames, example. And then try to ensure that names of local significance are given to as many of the new developments and buildings in our community as possible – linking past, present, and future in a way that enriches us all.
All suggestions welcome!
