Text Alert Service
Community Alert Text Service was originally piloted in Co. Kerry. It is a partnership between Muintir na Tire and An Garda Siochana and its aim is to improve safety and security of all the people in the Community.
This system is now used in many Garda Districts and is proving very effective. It sends out messages about incidents such as robberies and suspicious activity via text to Community Alert groups.
When a burglary or other crime takes place in rural areas it is a common occurrence that neighbours are unaware of the incident until many hours or days later and this is a huge help to criminals who are by then long gone.
Carrigtwohill Community Council has up a Text Alert Service to immediately alert our community that an incident has occurred and hope that prompt responses by people to Gardai will deter criminal activity in our area. It is hoped to promote crime prevention and to reduce the opportunities for criminals to commit crime in Carrigtwohill.
Prompt two-way notification about criminal activity in the area is critical for a safer community. Get to know your neighbours, particularly those living alone and be a good neighbour is the message of the Community Alert.
There has been a 64% increase in the population of Carrigtwohill over the past five years and Community Alert is an excellent way to improve engagement between an Garda Siochana and the local community. It is not possible to have a Garda on every street corner and so the local community are the eyes and ears for An Garda Siochana in crime prevention and detection.
