The winner of the Carrigtwohill Sports Star & Community Awards for 2015 will be announced at a function in Spratt’s Bar on Saturday January 23rd.
The winner/s will be selected from the monthly winners in 2015.

January | East Cork Glenmary Basketball Club Men’s team After a few trophy less years they won the Division 2 County Championship beating Cork Celts in the final, the team went on to double up winning the league in April. |
February | J. H. Kim Taekwon-do Institute Carrigtwohill For the second year running sent a team to compete in the P.U.M.A British Open and returned home with 10 trophie |
March | Carrigtwohill St. Patrick’s Day Committee This committee were recognised for their achievement in setting a wonderful parade in only a 3 week period. |
April | Carrigtwohill United AFC The B Team had a great season winning AUL 3A for the first time in 13 years, wrapping up the league with a 4-1 win against local rivals St. John Bosco’s on April 26th. Over the 16 game season they won 13, only losing 2 games and drawing 1 |
May | Carrigtwohill United AFC Carrigtwohill United went on to double in May and the Under 16 squad was presented with our May award as they won the Division 3 title. |
June | Richie Forde For achievements in Taekwondo Richie East Cork Taekwon-Do won a gold medal at ITF World Championships in Rimini, Italy |
July | Dermot Cashman For the last 6 years Dermot been the main driver of the Carrigtwohill 5K road race (Carrigtwohill Athletic Club), he has ensured that the race continues to develop and improve over the years. It has risen over €25,000 for C.A.S.A, Meals on Wheels and Community Care and is firmly established in the racing and community calendars |
August | Aaron Walsh Barry and Liam Gosnell of the Carrigtwohill GAA Club These players lined out for Cork juvenile hurling squads in the inter county Munster and All Ireland competitions in their respective age groups. Aaron had the honour of captaining the U15a side to victory in the Munster tournament whilst Liam played with Cork U 16A team who were successful in their bid to win the All Ireland a series for the second time. |
September | Lady Golfers of East Cork Golf Club The Ladies Challenge Team that won an All-Ireland Pennant |
October | Carrigtwohill Ladies Football Club After the successes of their Under 16 East Cork league and championship and the Under 12’s winning the East Cork Final. |
November | Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir The Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir was formed in 2010. The choir has been involved in many fundraising events for example The East Cork Rapid Response Unit and the Pieta House fundraiser recently held in Ballyseedy Home & Gardens and Bakestone. The choir was also involved in the recording of a CD with the Cork Penny Dinners to raise funds for this well-deserved charity. Their biggest achievement to date was been chosen to perform with the UK tenor Russell Watson on stage in the Cork Opera House. December | Dr. Hugh Doran & East Cork Rapid Response From January 1st to November 30th 2015 East Cork Rapid Response attended 114 callouts. Now, in their second full year of operation East Cork Rapid Response now has 8 paramedics/advanced paramedics in the East Cork Area. Alongside Dr. Doran, Pre hospital Critical Care with ECRR, these individuals give freely and voluntarily of their time to help the people in the community. The work of the East Cork Rapid Response has never been more vital in all senses of the word and we are delighted to acknowledge Dr. Doran’s contribution with this award. |
