Strand:2 Sports & Leisure
Section 1: – Multi-Purpose Sports Campus (MPSC)
The Multi Sports Integrated campus is aimed at setting up in Carrigtwohill a state-of-the-art multi-sports campus providing facilities which no club, established or emergent, would be able to get funding for on its own. MuSIC will generate economies of scale to facilitate the creation of new clubs and activities for the growing population of Carrigtwohill. Any new club could use MuSIC as its home to become established faster, more efficiently and attract fresh interest from the community.
The Sports campus would include a mix of indoors and outdoors spaces including: a running track and facilities for other track and field events. It would also include a multi-function all weather pitch to stage, GAA, soccer, and rugby matches of particular importance, open exclusively to local clubs. It would have a large-scale building with a mix of general purpose and dedicated spaces to organise a broad array of training sessions in basketball, martial arts, weight training, aerobics dance clubs, gymnastics, tennis and perhaps a climbing wall.
Located on lands close to the village, MuSIC will be easily accessible to all and will promote healthy living for all age groups in Carrigtwohill’s population.
