The Irish Folklore Schools Collection, part of the National Folklore Collection, was compiled in the 1930s, preserving Ireland’s cultural heritage through handwritten manuscripts from schoolchildren. Now, the Carrigtwohill Schools Folklore Project aims to replicate this, collecting, preserving, and celebrating the living traditions of their community.

This project recognizes the community’s evolution since the 1930s, embracing its diversity and acknowledging the contributions of newer community members. By including folklore from various nationalities, the project becomes a tool for building relationships and creating a more compassionate and inclusive community.

The project not only preserves cultural richness but also strengthens identity, fosters intergenerational connections, and promotes community engagement. With numerous benefits, including cultural exchange and economic opportunities, the project emphasizes modern methods, community involvement, ethical considerations, and long-term commitment.

As technology advances, the project ensures the active participation of the youth. It serves as a bridge between generations, allowing the younger community members to learn from the past, celebrate triumphs, and form their own opinions on shaping Carrigtwohill’s future. In embracing these changes, the project not only preserves cultural heritage but also becomes a catalyst for a vibrant and unified Carrigtwohill for the future.
